Sentry Paradox

I am trying to imagine what will be when 2 Sentries of different level are spreading in same network but could not find the answer. So what will be the strength of antivirus in system ? Strength of higher level of Sentry or strength of lower level of Sentry ? :ugeek:

Also another question:
Sentry - build 2 or 1 in the network for newbies ? Difference is only in spreading antivirus speed ? or in strength of antivirus too ? So if position of Sentry will be good enough to spread in whole network before attacker reach do we need second Sentry ? :ugeek:

1. A Developer answered this on the wiki - http://hackersthegame.wikia.com/wiki/Sentry
- Antivirus from Sentries of higher level will overwrite antivirus from lower level Sentries in a network.

2. I like having two, but then my base is quite symmetrical, so it make sense to have one on each side. It doesn't effect strength, just speed. The mistake I see the most often is that people connect them together and link them to the same black security node. This has no effect on speed. It would speed up on a white node, but not on black, since the black nodes only need to be activated.

The better option would be to have one at the front with your black security nodes and one at the back with your white resources. Or, if you have a symmetrical base like mine, one on either side in the middle of the base.

I should point out this is a tactic for low level bases. I've not reached stealth attacks yet, either attacking or being attacked by stealth. So no idea about placement after low level.

Silken answer is quite accurate.

About higher levels, Stealth, etc... placement is still crucial. About the count of Sentries, let's see:
  • Ladty (lvl 70) has two Sentries (and beutiful, symmetrical network, btw)
  • Lukemk (lvl 71) is currently under Shield (no idea why :) ), so I can't check his network
  • SolidSnake (lvl 74) has single Sentry.
  • I have two Sentries (lvl 77).

Sentry positioning is more important than their actual number. Not saying that 1 Sentry is all you need, especially when people start Wraithing it, but the goal is to spread it's program into the network. Which can be accomplished differently based on your topology with different amount of Sentries, to some 1 might be enough, to some 3 might still be too few.
