Turret vs Black ICE

I am trying to understand the trade off of using the offensive security nodes. For a level 1 node the game lists Turret as 15 strength and Black ICE as 22. I understand that we are looking at continuous versus burst damage, but does the strength statistic look at damage per second counting charge and travel time for Black ICE? My reasoning is:
  1. If strength does look at the actual damage per second, it seems like Turrets are rendered obsolete by Black ICE and I should only build the latter.
  2. If strength doesn't account for shot travel time, and Turrets have higher damage per second than Black ICE, I should only build the former.
  3. What are the benefits to network defense if I mix the two around my bottleneck?

1,2 I think the fandom wiki may have all you need
3. The benefit is to recapture the node quick.
Black ice for 22 dmg is actally dmg ler sec, when hit deals around 77 dmg acording to wiki, destroying ice walls with ease. It also has higher firewall too

Strength is damage per sec. So Black Ice accumulates over the travel time. As the post above indicates it will do 77 damage when it hits.

It benefits to have both types on a choke point. Turret damage it constant, added to the damage a sentry does, it allows very little time to place a shield such as Wall or Protecter. The Black Ices job is to then break the shield. At lower levels the best combination is 2 Turrets and 1 Black Ice on a low firewall choke point like a scanner.

At higher levels when shields are so much stronger, I'm off the option that 1 turret (with the benefit of a high sentry) and 2 Black Ice willl be better. But I've yet to test.
